National Sericulture Centre OverviewNational Sericulture Centre (NSC) is a special unit operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI). The center serves as an institutional framework for supporting sericulture development initiatives through developing improved skills and suitable technologies for enhanced cocoon production, promotion of value addition at all segments of the commodity value chain and linking silk producers to prospective markets and establishing information networks, for a sustainable silk industry. With the support of the government and development partners, the center is in charge of four provincial centers and has piloted sericulture activities in 40 cooperatives across the country with membership of over 2,000 farmers. The current strategy is to provide logistical and technical support to beneficiary cooperatives/centers to maximize profits. A successful silk industry will attract investors and private entrepreneurs subsequently making significant contributions to the national economy |
