HISTORY
Agriculture and food security have been at the core of the bilateral cooperation between Belgium and Rwanda since its inception in 1962 and the funds allocated to the sector have increased over the years. Since 2004, Belgium has funded 7 projects and Programmes with a total budget of more than 43 million Euros.
OBJECTIVE
To improve food security and fighting poverty through:
(i) improving access to inputs, services and markets;
(ii) Building the capacity of new stakeholders in agricultural development, and;
(iii) Supporting Rwanda national policies in general and agricultural policies in particular.
ONGOING PROJECTS
- Project Support for Small Livestock development in Rwanda, APEL (starting date: July 2009, ending date: January 2013; budget: 5 Million Euros) ;
- Support Programme for Market Oriented Advisory Services and Quality Seeds (Starting date: July 2011, ending date: July 2016; total budget: 18 Million Euros)
