Rwandan entrepreneurs and actors in agribusiness chains are attending a training that will make them gain knowledge, perspective and relations in an engaging way.
The training dubbed “Getting Global in the Agriculture, Agribusiness and Food Chain” forms part of knowledge and learning support to Rwandan agribusiness to become competitive in the global Markets
The seminar, taking place from the 27th to 30th November 2017 in Kigali, has been organized in the framework of bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Rwanda to develop cooperation in agriculture.
Opening the four-day training, Dr Charles Murekezi, the Director General in charge of agriculture development in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI), told participants that moving forward a vibrant agriculture sector shall be central in creating jobs, increasing export and improving livelihoods necessary to transform the economy to knowledge based-income economy.
He also noted that agricultural transformation agenda underlines quality public investments and encourages investments of private actors ranging from smallholder farmers and cooperatives to commercial farms in primary production, inputs and support service providers, traders, exporters and agro-processors.
The plan also prioritizes moving from food crop value chains and domestic markets to diversified value chains, regional and global markets.
As a member of East Africa Common Market and economic community of Great Lakes Countries, regional market opportunities have opened up for Rwanda, especially small and medium scale enterprises.
Agriculture sector employs 69% of the Rwandan population. The sector is a significant contributor to the country’s impressive economic growth averaging 7.9% for nearly 2 decades. This has been translated in the reduction of poverty and majority of Rwandan households becoming food secure.
