DISTRICT AGRONOMISTS AND FARMER FIELD SCHOOL FACILITATORS VOW TO DRIVE AGRICULTURE TRANSFORMATION
All district agronomists, Farmer Field School (FFS) facilitators and other agriculture field staff have committed themselves to enhance their collaboration and work hand in hand in a bid to increase agricultural productivity in their respective districts. They made the commitment on December 20, 2018 while closing a training on modern farming technologies.
The 2-week training course on cultivation and processing technologies of tropical crops in Rwanda took place at Rubona station in Huye District. It was provided by experts from Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) in partnership with Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB).
Fidele Bimenyimana, one of the FFS facilitators from Rusizi District, says the training course has equipped them with skills that will enable them professionalize their farming activities.
“We gained knowledge on the best techniques for maize growing, cassava and banana processing technologies, and mushroom farming among other. This know-how will help us to improving our farming practices back home,” Bimenyimana said.
Dusabimana Leonidas, the agronomist from Ngororero District, added that they acquired huge knowledge on best farming practices; which they will use to assist farmers in their respective areas.
“I believe that there will be significant transformation of our agriculture sector once we put into practice what we learned from this training,” the agronomist said.
While visiting them at the training site earlier this week, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr Gerardine Mukeshimana, urged the agronomists, FFS facilitators, farmer promoters and others who are involved in agriculture development to enhance their collaboration to ensure the easy dissemination of the best agronomic practices so that farmers can increase their productivity.
