Agriculture Modernisation

The Agriculture Modernisation Directorate monitors and evaluates the implementation of programmes related to crop production and participates in the formulation of policies and strategies related to that sub-sector.

The Directorate General of Agricultural Development monitors and evaluates the implementation of programmes related to crop production and participate in the formulation of policies and strategies related to that sub sector in collaboration with the Directorate General of Strategic Planning and Programme coordination.

Key output

To produce regularly reports on the implementation of programs related to crop production such as inputs supply, inputs use, soil and water management programs, mechanization programs, post-harvest handling and storage programs, crop protection programs, agricultural extension programs;

To identify problems and constraints that is facing the crop production sub sector and advice the Ministry on ways to overcome them;

Agriculture policy orientation

The vision as stated in the revised National Agriculture Policy (2018) is to have a nation that enjoys food security, nutritional health and sustainable agricultural growth from a productive, green and market-led agriculture sector towards 2030.

The mission of the sector is to “ensure food and nutrition security of Rwandans by using modern agribusiness technologies, professionalizing farmers in terms of production, commercialization of the outputs and then creating a competitive agriculture sector”. The policy has identified four main strategic and enabling pillars upon which core policy guidance and actions have been based:

  1. Productivity and Commercialization for Food Security, Nutrition, and Incomes
  2. Resilience and Sustainable Intensification
  3. Inclusive Employment and Improved Agro food Systems, Skills and Knowledge
  4. An Effective Enabling Environment and Responsive Institutions
