Minister Mukeshimana welcomes Ms. Coumba Dieng Sow, the new FAO Representative in Rwanda
Today August 2nd, 2022, the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Gerardine Mukeshimana, warmly welcomed Ms. Coumba Dieng Sow, the new Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rwanda.
After their introductory meeting at the ministry’s head office in Kacyiru, Kigali, the new FAO Rwanda representative Ms. Coumba Dieng Sow met with some of the members of MINAGRI senior management.
They discussed about increasing the role of FAO in the transformation of agriculture sector in Rwanda through joint planning.
Ms. Coumba Dieng Sow was appointed by Mr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on 18 July 2022.
Ms. Sow, an agroeconomist and public policy specialist, brings to the FAO Country office and the UN system in Rwanda more than a decade of experience in humanitarian and development work in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Before coming to Rwanda, she has been coordinating since 2017 a large team of experts as FAO Senior Subregional Resilience Officer supporting 18 African countries in West Africa and the Sahel region.
Coumba D. Sow joined FAO in 2006 as Agricultural Policy Officer. She then, in 2013, joined the Office of the Director General as Responsible for Africa.
She holds a Master’s degree in Management of Public Policies from Sciences Po Paris, France, a Master of Science in Agroindustry from the School of Agriculture and Food Industries in Montpellier, France, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of London, United Kingdom.
