Rwanda and Planet Labs discuss use of satellite imagery data for Rwanda

Today (July 27, 2022), the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Hon. Dr. Gerardine Mukeshimana, hosted a meeting with Dr. Will Marshall, the Co-Founder & CEO of Planet Labs PBC, to discuss the use of Satellite imagery data in different sectors in Rwanda.

The meeting was attended by three other ministers including Hon. Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT and Innovation, Hon. Marie-Solange Kayisire, Minister in charge of Emergency Management, Hon. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, Minister of Environment, as well as officials from Rwanda Space Agency and other senior officials accompanying the ministers.

They discussed about partnership between the Government of Rwanda and Planet Labs PBC, a company that has over 200 earth observation satellites capturing daily change on our planet.

The aim of the discussions between Planet Labs and Rwandan officials is to explore how to leverage satellite imagery data to improve environmental, agricultural, and disaster management among other areas in Rwanda.

As a satellite imagery data providing company, the California, USA-based Planet Labs PBC was founded with the mission to image the Earth every day and make change visible, accessible, and actionable.
