“AGRICULTURE IS THE FOUNDATION OF AFRICA’S PROSPERITY” -- PRESIDENT KAGAME
President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has called for action to increase agricultural productivity, which is essential for eradicating hunger and undernourishment on the African continent.
“We want a continent that is truly prospering in every sense of the term. And agriculture is undoubtedly the foundation of Africa’s prosperity. That is the larger ambition we must challenge ourselves to achieve. We owe it to the generations that follow us,” President Kagame has pointed out.
The Head of State made the statement on August 5, 2019 while speaking at the Africa Food Security Leadership Dialogue Dinner and signing of the Kigali communiqué that will formalize a commitment to better coordinate and facilitate joint actions.
The president urged participants to this meeting to join efforts to improve the enabling environment for agriculture transformation.
He also noted the importance of the harmonisation of food safety standards and trade facilitation platforms across Africa, both through the Regional Economic Communities and through the African Union.
The two-day event was attended by Ministers of Agriculture and Finance, heads of international institutions and Regional Economic Commissions, Nobel laureates, and eminent scientists to catalyze actions and financing to help address Africa’s worsening food security crisis under climate change.
