FARMERS URGED TO TAKE ADVANTAGES OF AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE FARMING
The government has called on farmers in Eastern Province to make the most of the opportunities availed to them in a bid to increase production both in quantity and quality. The call was made on December 01, 2018 in Nyagatare District while launching “Nk’Uwikorera Campaign” that is meant to improve agricultural service delivery in the province.
The agricultural service delivery campaign, jointly carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) and Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), is targeted to reach a big number of the public and bring agricultural services closer to them.
The launch of the campaign in Nyagatare District was marked by different activities including the provision of extension services to farmers, exhibition of different services offered by Rwanda Dairy Development Project (RDDP) to farmers, awareness on RDDP opportunities and financing modalities, and mobilization in action through community work such as farm fencing and bush clearing, forage planting, construction of crush, and distribution of surgery kits for trained veterinarians among others.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of MINAGRI, Jean Claude Musabyimana, called on the farmers to make good use of these services to improve their farming activities.
“You should take advantages of these services availed to you to increase your agricultural production both in quantity and quality; hence improve your wellbeing,” the PS told livestock farmers in Nyagatare.
The Permanent Secretary also urged Nyagatare farmers to care of other agricultural facilities availed to them such as Milk Collection Centers and Muvumba valley irrigation scheme to increase their production to the maximum.
Nk’Uwikorera campaign is carried out based on RGB’s Citizen Report Card survey recommendations. It was coincided with another broad campaign dubbed “Governance we want,” which aims to promote citizen-centred governance.
The same campaign activities are set to be launched in Northern and Western Provinces.
