MINAGRI: 270 farmer master trainers and farmer facilitators for fruit trees graduate
On 16 June 2023, 15 Farmer Field School (FFS) master trainers and 255 facilitators graduated after a two-year learning period in fruit tree farming covering a broad range of topics including fruit tree seedlings preparation, their planting, maintenance, and management. The event took place in Murama sector of Kayonza district.
Addressing the FFS master trainers and facilitators, the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr Ildephonse Musafiri, said that the government is looking for a potential investor who will buy the total fruit tree production which will be collected over 440 thousand fruit trees planted in the sectors of Murama and Kabarondo sectors of Kayonza District and Remera sector of Ngoma District so that farmers may have a guarantee to the market for the expected produce.
He advised them to maintain the 1,150-hectare fruit plantation, which has over 400,000 trees, including 160,000 mango trees, 100,000 avocado trees, 60,000 citrus trees, 60,000 tree tomatoes, and 60,000 jackfruit trees.
