MINAGRI HAS LAUNCHED THE SECOND GENDER AND YOUTH MAINSTREAMING STRATEGY IN AGRICULTURE
The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources has launched the second Gender and Youth Mainstreaming Strategy in agriculture, which will be implemented in line with the 4th Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation (PSTA 4).
The strategy was launched on Tuesday October 8, 2019 by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Jean Claude Musabyimana, on behalf of Minister Gerardine Mukeshimana.
Development partners, members of the civil society, and other stakeholders participated at the event.
“Empowering women and youth in agriculture should not sound as a social protection programme. It is rather a business case of creating a conducive environment to be able to tap women, men, and youth potentials towards an increased agriculture growth,” Musabyimana said as he officially launched the strategy.
The plan will focus on five key action areas; equal access to financial services, equal representation in market and value chains, equal access to extension support, inputs, and technologies, empowerment and decision making, as well as institutional gender mainstreaming.
The Permanent Secretary urged all the players in the agriculture sector to support and participate in the implementation of the strategy.
