MINAGRI STAFF URGED TO COMMEMORATE THE GENOCIDE AGAINST TUTSI
Staff members of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) and affiliated agencies have been called upon to remember the genocide against Tutsi ‘scientifically’ by carrying out research on the genocide.
The call was made on April 12, 2019 by John Rucyahana, the Chairperson of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) during the commemoration of former staff of the ministry and affiliated agencies who were killed during the Genocide against Tutsi in 1994.
“As scientists, you should remember the genocide against Tutsi scientifically,” Rucyahana told MINAGRI staff members.
The commemoration event was also attended by families of the victims, development partners and other stakeholders.
It was marked by testimonies, laying wreath on the memorial site, and lighting the flame of remembrance, among other things. In the testimonies, the survivors praised the former RPA soldiers for stopping the genocide. They also applauded the government for supporting them.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr Gerardine Mukeshimana, thanked the participants for joining to honor colleagues who were killed in the genocide against Tutsi.
She also noted that “All of us gathered here, especially young people, have responsibilities to sustain the country’s progress, fight against the genocide ideology, and promote Rwandan values. We should unite and work together to achieve this goal.”
Minister Mukeshimana also urged the staff members of MINAGRI, affiliated agencies and development partners to keep working hard to support Rwandans improving their farming activities to ensure food security and enhanced livelihoods.
