Minister Mukeshimana urged agricultural reporters to contribute in agriculture sector transformation

On 1 April 2022, the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Gerardine Mukeshimana, hosted journalists for a closing press conference after 5 days of media field trip on pig and poultry value chains. She thanked them for their continued working relationship with the ministry and urged them to keep contributing for agricultural transformation in Rwanda.

The Media field trip which was conducted in Nyagatare, Rwamagana, Muhanga and Bugesera districts, brought together 24 journalists from different media houses in Rwanda, from March 28th – 1st April 2022.

The media field trip used a participatory approach where journalists were involved in different activities including presentations, field demonstrations, and knowledge sharing about pig and poultry value chains. In return, journalists were able to develop comprehensive news stories about pig and poultry value chains.

The main purpose of the trip was to increase knowledge of agriculture sector in Rwanda especially pig and poultry value chains for the journalists, use the media to create awareness on healthy diets based on animal sourced foods from pig and poultry products as well as highlight untapped opportunities in pig, poultry, and animal feeds value chains through the media.

Speaking to journalists during a press conference on 1st April 2022, Hon. Minister Dr. Mukeshimana urged all agricultural reporters in the media to contribute in raising the needed awareness for agriculture sector transformation in Rwanda.
