Minister Musafiri and Sir Ian Wood visit Nyaruguru Tea Expansion Project

Nyaruguru, May 24, 2023; the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources Hon. Ildephonse Musafiri received Sir Ian Wood, Chairman of the Wood Foundation, they both visited Nyaruguru Tea Expansion Project to assess what was achieved by this project supported by Wood Foundation.

As part of the visit, Hon. Ildephonse Musafiri and Sir Ian Wood met with representatives of tea farmers in Nyaruguru. They discussed ways of increasing tea production and quality.

They also visited and assessed the construction status of Ekaterra Rwanda Tea Factory which is part of the Nyaruguru tea expansion project. It is expected to be completed end of this year 2023.

The Nyaruguru Tea Expansion Project Phase I started 2017 and it consists of a 3,400-hectare smallholder catchment, plus an 800-hectare commercial tea plantation with one processing factory. Phase II which started in 2020, will see the project expand to have a combined 6,400 hectares for smallholder tea out-growers and two processing factories.
