Rwanda hosts the 2nd Africa-Wide Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation

Rwanda hosts the 2nd Africa-Wide Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation, under the theme: “Deepening Conversation on the Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation to Transform Agriculture and Food Systems in Africa”.

This 3 days conference was officiated by the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources of Rwnada Hon. Dr. Gerardine Mukeshimana onApril 26, 2022 at Kigali Convention Centre.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Mukeshimana noted that it is exciting that deep conversations will be held on the role of science, technology, and innovation to transform agriculture and food systems in Africa,

"Your presence here today, is a testimony of your commitment towards the promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation as key enablers of Africa’s agriculture transformation. Scaling up Science, Technology, and Innovations in agriculture is very key in building sustainable and resilient food systems." She said. 

Minister reminded participants that African Governments recognize the critical role of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Africa’s economic and social transformation. In 2014, the Science, Technology, and Innovation for Africa (STISA-2024) strategy was adopted by the African Union. Effective implementation of this strategy requires sustained investment in Research and Development as well as getting the new technologies and innovations into the hands of stakeholders in key sectors of our economies including agriculture.

The government of Rwnada is commited to adavance technology in Agriculture. "I would like to assure you of the full support of the Government of Rwanda to the advancement of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Africa for sustainable economic growth and agricultural transformation." Minister Mukeshimana added.
