RWANDA’S FLOWER COMPANIES EXPLORE EUROPEAN MARKETS AS THEY ATTEND AN EXPO IN THE NETHERLANDS

Three companies that grow flowers in Rwanda (Bella Flowers, Bright Harvest, Bloom Hills) are in Vijfhuizen, the Netherlands, for the International Floriculture and Horticulture Trade Fair (IFTF), an annual exhibition of flowers, where the world’s floriculture industry gets together since 2012.
Rwanda delegation is attending this 3-day exhibition running from 8th to 10th November 2017 to showcase varieties of flowers grown in Rwanda and attract more buyers as well as creating business partnerships with potential investors across the world attending this exhibition.
Since Rwanda has started to target international markets for diversified products, floriculture has been one of the promising sectors that can increase foreign exchange. The flower export revenues increased from 13,428 USD in the fiscal year 2015/2016 to 1,243,427 USD in fiscal year 2016/2017 and the number of flower exporters increased as well. This is a result of NAEB’s efforts in mobilizing investors and facilitating export.
Since September 2016, the Bella flowers (a company owned currently by NAEB) exported 22,446 Kg of Roses with value of 114,058.95 USD. The company produces on 20 ha and is expanding on other 20 ha. There are 65 hectares available in Gishali Flower Park and 15 hectares available in Nyacyonga site of Gasabo District for floriculture investment.
Currently almost all flowers from the country are sold on Amsterdam Auction where 3 companies are already registered as members of Royal FloraHolland. Those companies are Floramatt, Bloom Hills and Bright Harvest. Bella flowers Ltd is in the process to be registered as the member of this Royal FloraHolland.
Participation to events like IFTF offer an opportunity to meet new buyers and strike sales deals.
