The African Union Commission (AUC) has presented the comparison of country scores in implementing the Malabo Declaration of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) and Rwanda came out with the highest score on the continent.
The comparison of country scores was presented during the second Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee (STC) of the African Union that took place from the 2nd to 6th October 2017 at the AUC Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The theme of the 2017 STC is “Enhancing environmental sustainability and agricultural transformation to achieve food and nutrition security in advancing Agenda 2063.”
Minister of State in Charge of Agriculture, Fulgence Nsengiyumva, who also participated in the meeting, shared the transformation agenda of the Government of Rwanda on agriculture and food security for the 21st century while recognizing with satisfaction the African agricultural scorecard on achieving the Malabo Declaration presented and informing the assembly on the country's commitment to continue champion the CAADP agenda.
The meeting also elected Rwanda as the third Vice-Chair of the bureau of the STC for a two-year term (2017-2019) together with Burkina Faso (Chair), South Africa (first Vice-Chair), Mauritania (second Vice-Chair) and Congo as the rapporteur of the bureau.
The STC meeting considered and adopted strategic documents and reports related to Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment and to provide policy recommendations and guidance on topics that are high on Africa’s Development Agenda 2063
